GETNLOOSE X LEAD DNA AOK

1. Tell us who you are, how you came about your name, what crews you rep and how long you have been writing?

I write lead. I started writing in 1991 but have been writing lead since 1993. I am in the crews DNA AOK IMOK/DF and VLOK. I’m in a few others but those are the main ones I push consistently.  The first word I wrote, I did a lot of damage with, in a little suburban town where I grew up. In no time I got pinched for it. Luckily much of the damage was made with the son of a cop so the casework was conveniently never processed. After that I used to have a word for the street and a word to write around my school, I was always considered a leader and just always did what I wanted too so it stuck.

2. Who were your biggest influences when coming up?

The highway graffiti in providence Rhode island and on the cross Bronx expressway in NYC played a major roll. If it were not seeing the highways destroyed while driving to skateboard competitions up and down the North East US, in the early 90s I would not have started practicing graffiti writing. As far as individuals, I would have to say Emit, Gaze, Cycle and the whole IMOK crew. My first partner Ased who started DNA with me and pushed me to get better. Also, local Rhode Island bombers like Crick, Bester, and Emyt ups.

3. Favorite 5 pieces of all time and why ?

1. Anything by JA but this specific action. Not because its over saber, he is a real cool cat, but because of the message it sends. No matter who you are or how big or what you do it is NOT permanent.
the rest are in no specific order…

2. Provihence by Hence. holy shit if this is not one of the best freight trains ever done!

3. Kuma (i got you stuck off the realness) freight. I rolled on this guy and monk painting this in the middle of no place Ohio, in like 2000 or something. It was done before he had a name for himself or anyone knew who he was. Its just raw, real witty and honest. Thats the only time i have crossed paths with this guy. That also makes it cool to me because he is every where now.
4. Zeism fatcap tags. Since the days of Forbidden Art Videos this guy has always been so good with a fat cap. Those scenes and tags like this resinate when i think of the essence of graffiti bombing.
5. Every Gaze IMOK piece.  Patterson nj jam and Broome st wall pictured here. Chances are your favorite writer bit techniques and processes Gaze was rocking in the very early 90s. Anything from negative letters, splashing paint on wall, blown out letter tips, motion effects and “imok fades”,  that most of the graffiti world have been playing out in the last few years Gaze did first.
4. Favorite city and why?

My favorite city is Providence Rhode Island. I’m not saying this is the best city and I have traveled to countless, but it will always be “home” and  where I prefer to write the most. It’s the only city I care about being up in and have pride in. I write in every city I go to, but to me none feel like when I’m tagging in my home state.
5. Favorite food / drink /? (Please include recipe if applicable)
This for me is an impossible question to answer. I travel far distances just to visit restaurants. I stay watching food network and cook almost every day. I will drop serious money eating at famous chefs restaurants just to say I tried it.
I can tell you some standouts that are easy on the pocket: Spumoni Gardens and DiFara’s pizza both in Brooklyn. Best pizza I have ever had in the world. Sultans Market on North in Chicago is some of the best Middle Eastern food I have had. NBC Seafood in Monterey Park, CA, has the best Dim Sum in the states.  El Pancho Villa and Taqueria Los Coyotes both in the Mission on 16th in SF, Really good authentic Mexican.
6. Biggest vice ?
My biggest vices are probably tagging, stealing and collecting.  It’s not so much they are vices but I do them obsessively. Not a day goes by where I don’t write or scratch my name on something. Usually I lift at least one thing every day. Not because I need too, but because I have this overwhelming felling that I want to take it just because I can. I refuse to pay for over priced small items that I need. Toothbrush, coconut water, deodorant, most groceries etc.  I know its stupid, but for me it feels better not paying for it. Lastly is collecting. I have a substantial art collection, stamps, books, watches, ephemera, anything of personal and historic value ill get it to hold onto.
7. Biggest Gripe ?
The whole “its not biting everyone has done it” mentality. That shit sucks. I hate it so much. That’s why most all graffiti looks the same and fits into like 3 little tidy categories. “Well fuck it, so and so big name writer does it and he bit it so I can too”. Gross. It creates complacency and a body of cliché contrived works. I wont get into it further because i will hurt feelings and it always ends up getting me more flack.
8. Favorite shoe?
Nike ecue and Nike humara.  I troll the internets for any dark colored ecue. They are the most comfortable shoes I have worn. I wear them to skate, paint, and hike anything but super hard to find!
9. Favorite 5 tracks ?
This is also too tough. Its an ever changing list and I’m always playing out songs or artists but to name bands that kinda always seem to stay atop my list that I could listen to at any given time: Radiohead, Pearl Jam, Placebo, Deertick, Ghostface, El-p, Mars Volta/ At The Drive-In
10. Favorite tool of the trade and why?
I Literally have not left my house in the last 10 yrs. without a scribe in my change pocket.  It’s not necessarily my favorite for damage but I’m never without it so no matter where I am I can catch a permanent signature.
11. Favorite hand style?
This is a hard one because I’m really really into penmanship and how one writes. To me it is hands down the most important aspect of graffiti.  There are some people who can do great burners and can’t even manage to sign it or write their crews properly. Then there are those who can do their ONE tag really well but can’t write shit else worth a lick. With that said probably one of the most well rounded “hand styles” to my particular standards is REMIO. Pretty much perfect. As far as tags and great tagging style: Alert/Dkae. ( the best handstyle of all time in my opinion), SpOne, Cost KRT, JA, Adek, Swek SWS, ZE, Skuf, Nemel, Aero BYI, Gemeos, Cape Ftk.
12. 3 people you would love to have a pint with and why?
I have never taken a sip of alcohol in my life but I would like to hang out with Elton Brown, Jason Lee, JA and MQ, at the same time…. haha
13. Any writer you think that duznt get enough shine or credit?
Gorey from Paris, if it were not for this guy, horfe and the like, would not be doing that clogged cap “machine” style they are. GAZE IMOK/DF, (see my above answer in favorite pieces question). Its a shame Gaze does not appear in more influence lists in interviews. Mesh AOK who did many early outlines for reas and ven. Monk SCA, Hence C&F (not really active now but he was wicked in the late 90s). It just seems most of the “it” guys now cant hold a flame to the soul and originality some people not even in “favorite writer” conversations have.
14. Can you tell us a bit about your crews, its not too often AOK gets a new member, how did that come about?
Well one night years back the NYC transit system went on strike. I drove down to NY to make some subways. I checked several spots but settled on queens to rock the 7 line. Got out to the spot and there were two fellows ducking in the brush. My friends and I pulled out some shit and rolled on them. This giant of a human proclaims he is GHOST RIS and the other VEN. We spent some time talking then got to work. The rest is history. The crew is pretty big so naturally im much closer to some then others.
15. Last time you were caught doing something ?
Its been a very long time but going into details online about any dirt can just cause drama or get you linked up to other crimes so i digress.
16. 5 things that are within arms reach of where you are right now?
My dog, glock 19, MacBook pro, iPhone, Bori Cha (Korean tea)
17. Average day, leaving your house, whats in your pockets?
Money, phone, scribe, lucky coin, silver pen, stickers (always in my vehicle).
18. 3 things to do before you die?
Go to Asia, own a Porsche Carrera 4s, have a son.
19. What are you interested in outside of graf?
Food, music, skateboarding, art are the mainstays. I have always had a motorcycle and even raced cars for a bit. Graffiti for me is habitual but only a fraction of my daily life. Unless im on a mission specifically aimed at graffiti, I have gotten over the hump where it consumes my days.
20. ANY SHOUTS, UPCOMING PROJECTS ?
Never go quietly.
Naceo Forever

I write Ouch, I came up with it awhile back when I was in between words. I really liked it because it was and still is very challenging for me. I think thats why I kept it. I go by Ouchey as well. I have been writing since 1999, I rep THR, MLS and Qset

2. Who was your biggest influence when coming up?

My biggest influence coming up was Diefor, he goes by cash1st sometimes as well. I met him around 9 years ago I guess. He really showed me the ways on structure and style. I still don’t really know why he chose to be my guide. Changed my life though really, he looked after me in life, graffiti and beef.
And second to him would be vic20, he really taught me how to push myself on a bombing level that i needed. He also gave me a lot of advice and helped me get out of crime. i consider these two guys to be very important to me and helped me out with many things. special thanks to both of them.

3. Favourite 5 pieces of all time and why – (please include links)

to me this piece is just so damn hard, WWL has the ability to rape any city he goes to and what he can to do transit is just so damn impressive. he will do in a week what others do in a year.

this dude and his boys are what I grew up seeing and much respect to them.
Dondi hands down to me is one the best if not the best at this. I learned so much and was inspired by him so many times over the years
this isn’t my favorite of his work but I really like what he does and respect his stance on transit
this isn’t my favorite of his work but this speaks volumes about him. i encourage any and everyone to check his work out if you can.

4. Favourite city and why ?

My biggest vice is probably tequila.

7. Biggest Gripe ?

I would have to say my biggest gripe is people not minding their own business, people not being able to mind their own business can really mess with peoples lives.

8. Favourite shoe?

Favorite shoe? damn that is hard one, as far as what i own and wear from time to time would be Addidas sambas or a good old fashioned Airmax. I really like some of the early year jordans though I’ve never owned them except for an old pair Diefor kicked me down.

13. Any writer you think that duznt get enough shine?

14. Can you give us a brief run down on THR and what you guys are about?

I’m only close to a few people in it. I don’t consider myself to be a heavy hitting member though i try my hardest to make everyone proud, and do my best to rep the shit out it. For me though i would say its about painting graffiti to the best of my abilities and not stoppin’ for no one and nothing ever.

Thats a tough question, the ninja turtle sleeping bag i used as a kid and a book hops gave me for my birthday last year. I would say my cat too but he’d already be gone and prolly be thinking im stupid for going into a burning house.

18. 3 things to do before you die ?

19. What are you interested in outside of graf?

Im into traveling, hanging out with my friends and family, and just having a good time. I think there is something to be said about a good conversation over a nice meal with people you care about. I enjoy making pizza, I’ve been doing it for a decade and still love it.

1. Tell us who you are, how you came about your name, what crews you rep and how long you have been writing.

I write Twigs. I was given the name Twigs by one of my closest friends, Dio 420. I don’t remember the exact reason why I was given this name, but at the time I was very skinny and the name Twigs seemed to fit me well.

I rep TGE – “The Great Escape.” TGE crew was started by Curve and Esteme in Philidelphia.

I rep SBS – “Sabbath Bloody Sabbath.” SBS is a crew that consists of close childhood friends from my small hometown in the Pacific Northwest.

I was also just put down in YME by Ichabod this last week. Really excited to push YME.

I picked up the spray can in 1999 and have not stopped since.

2. Who was your biggest influence when coming up?

In a sense I owe a lot of my influence to Chino BYI. If it wasn’t for the Graf flix section in The Source magazine, I most likely would not have found graffiti. I attribute my motivation to continue writing graffiti over the years to some of the photos that were in that magazine. Since my early teenage years I have wanted to paint at the skill level of some of those old New York productions. One day I will reach this goal.

Soon after, I met my longtime painting partner (Other) in our high school art class. He was a year younger then I was but he ran with some older guys who had shown him the ropes a little bit. I can vividly remember the first day I met Other. He had his blackbook with him. At that time I had just been tagging and drawing naked women on my desk so when he showed me his blackbook I was blown away. This kid had page after page of full-color burners with characters and everything. I had finally found someone to paint with. Soon we were making trips to the local hardware store to steal paint and tips. As luck would have it, our small town had these two huge train tunnels with lots of space. We started to paint there every weekend. At the time we really had no clue what we were doing, but I think that was what made it so fun and interesting. During those first years of piecing Other was much better then I was. He had decent letters, good can control and natural artistic talent. Every time we rolled a wall out I was just trying to keep up. That was my initial motivation to get better. He influenced me a lot along with a list of other close friends. Dio 420/Main, Fist (RIP) and Dysko. Some of the people who came through and painted memorable pieces in the tunnels over the years were Awe 2, Heat, Myth, Remio, Sneke, Diar, Saer, Puzle, Nerves, Slim, Slope Floe crew, Vapor, Sasquatch, Cern, Besea and Neros.

In our area there were many great writers and crews that either lived there or passed through from time to time to paint. The writers who stood out to me early on were Amps, Menes, Next (RIP), Whirl, Plus One (RIP), Jugs, Koso/Cosoe, Slaer 4DC, Jessie 4DC, Oursin, Buz, Riner, Organs, Rain, Som OFA, Jaber and Jasper. In my opinion, the crews that stood out to me and influenced the area I lived in were 4DC/LFC, DTC/KYT, DVS, TITS Crew, TNK and GPK.

We were also able to acquire a few graffiti magazines early on from a local music store. The first one we got was the Urban Autograph Issue 8. It had lots of flicks from California. That really got us juiced and gave us new directions on what graffiti was supposed to look like. Other also some how acquired a VHS copy of VideoGraf Issue 9 with Cost and Set and Doms. That really dropped some knowledge on us at that time.

A year or two into painting my crew and I ventured out of our city and into the country and found the freights. This brought a lot of new influences for us. There was freights coming in from all over the country. We saw lots of A2M freights, Worms, Lewis, etc. Tyboe from Lords Crew always had pieces in our yard. Meter, Depths and Bruiser had tags on almost every car in the yard. And various other pieces from all over the country.

3.Favorite 5 pieces of all time and why?

This Wall was painted by Menes in 1995 in my hometown.  Everything about this is fresh.

loved this whole page. But look at the “Welcome to the Jungle” Handball court wall.  I love the color choices and placement of all the pieces.

This whole page mixed with my boredom and frustration growing up in a small town sparked my interest in graffiti big time.  These productions have it all perfect colors schemes letters, and themes.

This wall is just fresh

I love this wall. The letters, tags and characters are all great. Rip King Dream

4.Favorite city and why?

I really enjoy Philadelphia. Some of the coolest and most talented people I know are either from that city or lived there. I love the no-nonsense attitude people seem to have there. I like how gritty and raw Philly is. It has a real ‘90s hip-hop feel to it. Cheesesteaks are worth the visit at the least.

5. Favorite food/drink?

Carnitas tacos with jalapenos and carrots and a glass bottle of coke or some spicy Tom kha soup with a glass of ice water.

6. Biggest vice?

I don’t drink or smoke weed but occasionally I like to do whip-its and listen to Tommy Wright III.

7. Biggest Gripe?

This is a tough one, simply because I have so many gripes. But I’m going to have to say junkies, and the damage junkies have done to the rights of public restroom users everywhere.

8. Favorite shoe?

Canvas authentic Vans black and white, or Nike Air Vortex for when I’m out on the town looking like a comfortable dad.

9. Favorite 5 tracks ?

1. Tommy Wright III – “187 in Progress” or “No Fear ‘98″ (both great Gangster rap songs to do whip-its to)

2. Kilo Ali – “Cocaine Remix 1992 (America Has a Problem)”

3. Marvin Sease – “Candy Licker Girl”

4. RX Lord –”Money Makers”

5. Too $hort – “Just another day”

10. Favorite tool of the trade and why?

Any nice can of black with a NY Fat on it.

11. Favorite hand style ?

SP One, Doms KOC, JA One, Dream TDK (RIP), Twist, Amaze, Whirl, Sober, Renos, Pastime, Jase, Del Phresh, Oiler (RIP), Vault, Slope, Owler, Learn YME, Seyce, Jurne and Curve… And the list could go on.

12. Three people you would love to have a Coke with and why?

Robert Crumb – He is one of my favorite artists. He is really inspiring to me. His ideas are great. His drawing skills are top notch, and he’s just an all around weirdo. I would like to talk to him about our mutual interests in women with big butts and also hopefully soak up some of his creativity.

Bill Clinton – I feel like Bill’s got some great stories to tell.

Larry David – That dude cracks me up. I’m sure he would be extremely awkward to hang out with.

13. Any writer who you think doesn’t get enough shine?

Osker HCM A4Y – If you moved to Oakland from 2002 to 2007 then he most likely was the first writer you met or you got put in touch with him by someone else and he put you on and introduced you to people. The guy might as well have just charged to give graffiti tours. When I moved to Oakland he had the place on lock with throw-ups, tags and pieces. Plus he’s just an all-around good dude.

Dement – He’s got really interesting style and he can paint just about anything. Not to mention that he’s one of the nicest guys out there doing his thing.

Jedi 5 TGE- The Karate master. This guy’s been doing his thing for years. Pieces, hand styles, throw-ups, freestyles off the dome. He can do it all and at a really cheap price.

I also think that the SWS dudes in Denver don’t get enough shine either. Hand styles, pieces, throw-ups, blackbooks, they kill it.

If anyone reading this has not seen all of the productions that TDK crew from Oakland has done over the years, hop on flickr and get your shine on.

14. Can you give us a brief rundown on TGE and what you guys are about?

TGE is a crew filled with various styles of writers. And what brings us all together as a crew are our senses of humor, outlooks on life and graffiti and, of course, our love of letters. I am constantly inspired by the writers in my crew. When I get flicks from the other members I get inspired to do a better piece of my own to send back. We all critique and get critiqued openly without insult. We all strive to better ourselves as individual artists while promoting and supporting each other along the way. We don’t compromise our integrity or who we are for cheap fame. We earn respect through the hard work we put out there, and the respect that we show to others. I would say that TGE is a family of creative people.

15. Last time you were caught doing something?

Not wearing a seat belt.

16. Five things that are within arms reach of where you are right now?

A jar of pencils. Bottle of Ibuprofen, camera, a Bio TATS crew rap-pack trading card, computer.

17. What would you grab from your burning house?

Boxes of family photos and a few paintings that I own.

18. Three things to do before you die?

1. Travel to Africa
2. Learn to speak another language

3. Get eaten by a shark

19. What are you interested in outside of graf?

I’m very interested in ‘60s and ‘70s comic books. Collecting old trinkets and collectables. One of my favorite things to do is to just walk around and people-watch; I enjoy talking to street people. I also enjoy working on various projects from home remodeling to big-building construction.

20. Any upcoming projects? Any shout outs?

Shout out to all the TGE crew and SBS crew, my family, and everyone else that has supported over the years.

dmote – PS

1. Tell us who you are, what crews you rep / what crews stand for etc?

Dmote/Shank – i write PS (Prime Suspects) its really an anti crew, its just my freinds from my local bar in Australia, its a crew i started in 87 which had long been gone, we resurected it for a bit of fun…its not meant to be taken seriously, crews stand for different things for different people, my freinds at TATS are a real family, one that spends everyday together, works, bbq’s, private lives, dramas etc are all included, from my experience thats what a real crew is to me…

2. how did you get your tag / what did you used to write at the start etc?

i wrote a bunch of bullshit names in the begining (Size) being one of the better ones, in 87 the dude i looked up to in Sydney was Stylez, he had two alias’s Moske and Dmise, I liked the way they looked so i merged them to make something similar…

3. how long are you writing and how did you start?

i started same as the rest of the world after graff travelled from new york, books, movies etc…started in 85

4. Early influences?

locally in sydney… Stylez, Joker Blaze and long time partner Prins, worldwide…Dero, Wane, Bio, Seen, Mack, Shame, Sak, Tkid etc…

4a. Growing up in Sydney, Australia – what was the scene like? can you tell us about it and your experience in other Australian cities – Melbourne etc.

Sydney was a more aggressive, violent, criminal based scene from the jump, a lot of dudes just tagged while out doing dirt, (Air max, and Lacoste polos was the uniform) that hindered real artistic progress from the early days on, melbourne was way more relaxed lifestyle, (desert boots and flanels) art was the focus, by 89/90 melbourne had at least 7/8 world standard writers…

5. Your style has changed alot from the early 2000s – youve changed from a more blocky, straight barred style into a more funky / flowy style with some classic New York stylings – why did this come about and how?

ha ha i thought it hadnt changed much at all, if your talking about the Shank pieces, i try to let go and just do whatever comes to mind, experiment and be prepared to make mistakes, the Dmote name has always been hard for me, so the Shanks have allowed me to try new things and reinvent my game a little, they are still far from were i want them to be but im thinking about it more than i ever did…

6. Favourite 5 pieces of all time and why (please include image links)

ok these are just 5 things that influenced me…that i thought were amazing

1.this Reas piece was a a game changer for me, first time i saw anything like this…
2. this Shame piece is perfect, no flaws, all confidence, thats how it should look…
3.Bio Mack Tony…
i cant find a pic of the whole wall but its the one in spraycan art, it has everything, location, political message, style/different styles, characters, we tried hard to make it look close to this but failed miserably…
4. i was always stoked on this Knows peice…
5. these two walls are amazing displays of stylish letters, i studied both for a long time…
Cem, Seen, Ken Shame…
Sak, Mkay, Shame…
7. Favourite writers of all time
ok thats tough but Phase 2, Dondi, Reas, Shame, Lee
8. favourite current writers and why – (include links to images if you want man). – who is someone to watch etc….

Horfe, Revok, Jurne, Reas, Yes 2,,, people to watch are definatley False and Curve…

9. favourite colors? (name brand and color please)

ive never really cared to much or even had a lot of paint, id just use it all…now Montana black range is my favourite because it covers so easily and on most surfaces…

10. You are based in NYC now – how is the scene there? Who do you like seing / painting with / favourite spots?

NYC is great, even tho the city is loosing its edge day by day its still always entertaining, im inspired by the young dudes that go hard on the streets, that makes me wanna paint more, and wish i had that time again…

11. Name 3 people you would like to go for a pint with?

apart from my drinking buddies id say…

1. Mike Patton hes an interesting dude that does discerning projects, would probably have something to say…
2. Jenna Haze because if i got anything filthy out of her it would be worth it…
3. John Chaimberlin, heard he liked to get loose…

1. Tell us who you are, how you came about your name, what crews you rep and how long you have been writing?

DZEE17 the name evolved as i did the 17 was added for ALOT17 after he passed away in 2004. I watched graffiti closely my entire life and became an active participant in September of 94, my early years consisted mainly of being sidelined by injury or addiction, I began to figure it out somewhere around 99.
2. Who was your biggest influence when coming up?
First and foremost, the genius at PBS who decided to mindfuck a generation of children by airing Style Wars regularly following Sesame Street.  I consider myself to still be coming up and will be forever there is always more to learn and an infinite amount of graffiti to do. I have met people over the course of the last year who have already formed a lasting impact or influence on my life. It is difficult to answer because I am so far removed from where I was when  I started. the things I was being influenced to do back then really have no relevance in my current life, I could  give a long list of people i surrounded myself with who brought nothing but drama and court cases to my life, but they were actually there when i started writing graffiti, do I shout them out? No.  This question is hard to answer without offending a lot of people who have a legit claim to some responsibility for the damages they have helped me cause.  I have run with a lot of crews, have made and lost great friendships, have made enemies of former best friends and best friends of former enemies. My story is long and drawn out and
private so here is an anecdote and a bit on two very important people I can actually speak on.
Summer of 94 school had just gotten out, everyone from my class was at Penrod’s on South Beach. I was 13 and just embarking on my criminal voyage, experimenting with fire, and broken windows. I was always attracted to graffiti from the minute i learned how to read it but i was still very unclear as to how it got there and who was responsible for it. The sun was setting and we were walking back to the car I noticed a shady character lurking around the palm trees and the smell of spray paint as we walked through a vapor cloud. I looked at him, he remained calm, I nodded my head and kept moving. A couple days later I returned to the spot and instinctively checked the trees still not really understanding what I had witnessed. MQUE? 94 was scrawled on all possible targets. This was a major turning point from arson and shoplifting to organized graffiti it was at this point that I realized it was being done quietly in the shadows.
ALOT17 is pretty much single handedly responsible for my current graffiti adventures, there was a time when I was down and out for the count. ALOT of bad things happened, ALOT of people turned their backs on me when I was away, he had been writing me steadily,  keeping the fire burning sending me outlines and pictures, I got home on parole and spoke graffiti with him for a couple of weeks before I cracked and before i could say no Chub was dropping us off to paint high profile spots. He was a motivator, a style expert, and an all around American Gangster, when he died i made the decision to carry on for both of us permanently.
OIL was a  huge influence on me, the stories that we’re circulating around Miami about him were legendary. He was known for the strong arm, small in stature but a Giant on the streets. I started doing more and he immediately hated me, anyone who did any type of graffiti in Miami in the 90s had some type of run in with him and it usually ended in running from him. We met one morning early after discussing how we were going to rearrange each other’s faces via aol graffiti chat. I walked up, we squared off, we moved in circles for about 15 seconds he said: you sure you want this? I replied: no I don’t you are my favorite writer. We dropped guard and shook hands, we chilled for the rest of the weekend and remained friends until the end. Years later he clowned on me for my reply, admitting that it was all he really wanted to hear.
Basho and June have also always looked out for me since I was a child.
3. Favourite 5 pieces of all time and why – (please include links)
Impossible to narrow it down to 5 pieces but here’s examples of things i find amazing: Wyse graffiti. (N)etwork freight trains, Kem5 pieces,  Dondi anything, Vans The Omega, Vizie, Daks graffiti, Os Gemeos, Remio & Kaput. Ghouls.  KooL QSC, Causr. Anything from CHiSme, Smash74, or June. Sever life sized illustrations, Witnes peices, SWS graffiti, RB graffiti…
4. Favourite city and why ?
San Juan, Puerto Rico. It’s a short trip for me, immediately when you get off the plane you begin to notice the definite presence of a very live existent graffiti scene set in a tropical paradise. The streets are covered in graffiti, over the past 10 years it has snowballed to near maximum capacity. I have a lot of family history in San Juan, I am not Puerto Rican but when my family needed shelter they found it there. It is a second home for me, and I take great pride and pleasure making it look that way.
5. Favourite food / drink /?

I eat Raisin Bran Crunch twice, sometimes three times a day. Bananas and Mangos are good too. Dead animals sometimes but mostly just breakfast. Patron is good, as is New Castle beer.
6. Biggest vice ?

Watching Marathons of First48, I can’t get enough ignorant violence and yelling at the TV right before they snitch on themselves.
7. Biggest gripe?
Yeah, this group of Doctors stole my right nut, seriously. I think it was a DNA heist.
8. Favourite shoe?
-sperry topsiders, good for everything from pimping to panel pieces.
9. Favourite 5 tracks
Mos Def- Traveling Man. Styles P- My Life. Bob Marley- Redemption Song. Frank Sinatra- My Way. Metallicca-One.
10. Favorite tool of the trade and why? ( Eg. paint, mean streak etc)?
Quick Color flat black. Kilz white. MTN Pocket Black. Presto Jumbo Correction Pen. Pilot Medium Point Silver. Meanstreak White, any type of adhesive paper, Purple Magic Ink.
11. Favorite handstyle ?
Crude OiL, in my biased opinion the best ever. Smoke PCF. Glacer. NemeL. Caype. Surer. Fonse. O’clock. MQ. KVee from Miami. SoL & Ace from Miami. Kalies/DmeK from Miami who has been up consistently for decades. DEED from Miami. War & Guns FTL. Nise NSF, Arek. SP.One. Adek & QS.One.. Dash FC, Yews NYC Fuer and Epyk, I could go on forever.
12. 3 people you would love to have a pint with and why?
1.Stephen Hawking to pick his brain about Aliens and wormholes.
2. Anderson Silva, mid pint I would attack him just to see how far I could get before being pummeled it would be one of those just to say I did it situations.
3. Realistically I have ALOT of dead friends that I would like to holler at one more time even if it’s just to say Peace out.
13. Any writer you think that duznt get enough shine?
OKIES from DTS is possibly the worlds best Human not even considering that his graffiti is like the best ever. LPS 246 from Tokyo. ZAME IBM… TWIGS TGE is awesome. KIDS DAC (rip). RUZD from Europe (rip) a lot of Americans don’t know about him he was a savage monster.
14. Can you give us a brief run down on D30 and what you guys are about. Ive always been intrigued by the name as obviously its not to do with 30 members?
- born in a beer box on Chicago’s violent South Side. we are about connecting all the dots on the map, until our destiny manifests. Modern day pirates, if what you seek ain’t free, then steal it.
15. Last time you were caught doing something ?
Define caught. Actually I plead the 5th.
16. 5 things that are within arms reach of where you are right now?
My sleeping toddler, a Daschund, the remote control, a stuffed Lamby doll, and a switchblade I obsessively pop up and down all day.
17. what would u grab from your burning house?
My hands are completely full I have 2 dogs and a child, everything else was meant to burn.
18. 3 things to do before you die
- it’s interesting I had a small bout with cancer and this question becomes a little bit more meaningful after bouncing back and especially after watching some very close friends pass away prematurely 1. My primary concern/goal is to make enough money so that my child has better opportunities than I had growing up. We live in a crazy world and time is of the essence so I’m currently acting accordingly. 2. Visit Cuba, and completely destroy the streets with graffiti, freedom style. 3. Live long enough.
19. What are you interested in outside of graf?
- Beautiful women,  islands, Aliens, warfare, Triathlons, marine biology, ghosts, ancient civilizations, Heat Basketball, anything Disney princess related, PTA meetings, early morning starts, Pixar, Ninjas, Robots & Lasers, Legos, Breaking Bad, explosives, time travel, resurrections and reincarnations…

getnloose x kaput vts

Please introduce yourself….

I write Kaput (VTS, NR, IBD) and I’m from Vancouver in Beautiful British Columbia, Canada.

Can you tell us a bit about when you started out?

Skateboarding with schoolmates in the mid nineties is how I got into writing. The dude who influenced me wrote Kover, he had a real fresh hand. I would marker tag things and put up stickers inside buses just like a green horn should.

You have a very unique style can you tell us about what influences you?

I don’t think my style is all that unique but thanks. You can see that I am influenced by traditional New York graffiti first and foremost.

You paint real colorful graphic pieces with bold outlines, what is your take on the current technique > style trends?

Graffiti is always changing as is life and I’ve always stuck with a bold semi traditional style. I have a lot of respect and dig all the new techniques out there in the world. As long as I’m having fun that’s all that matters. I’ll stick to my caveman style though ;)

We saw in your video from Chile you sketched up your piece to suit the area you were painting on, Do you ever use a sketch and if so how often do you actually sit down with the intention to do a sketch?

I try to use sketches as much as I can but sometimes you have to piece in a confined space or an awkward zone. I made multiple sketches for my trip to Chile and only ended up using a couple. I find it a lot of fun and a nice challenge painting letters on the spot.

Which writers do you like style wise?

Stak, Sento, Cavs, Sien5, Sabe, Swet, Dmote, Yes2, Jurne, Pubes…..

Favorite handstyle? Veefer…

Often when I see a piece by you music starts playing in my mind, what type of music are you into and would you be able to link a specific song to a specific piece you’ve done?

I like lots of different music, you can’t listen to the same genre or it can get stale fast. 70’s Funk or Psychedelic rock would seem to work with the fills and colours that I use. Freddie’s Dead by Curtis Mayfield or Psychedelic Trip by The Chocolate Watchband are good examples… haha!

We have relatively no freight scene here in Ireland due to a very small rail network, can you describe a typical night painting freights? As in do you just paint one piece and bounce or is it an all nighter with pieces, straight letters, throws etc?

I’m a quality over quantity dude, so I take my time on one piece. I’ve done multiple panels in one night but very rarely. When I use to hit cars with my old partner Cameo, I would do one and he rocked two usually. I’m always the last to finish and it’s always a good laugh.

Can you give us a brief rundown on VTS and what you guys are about?

Remio and I started VTS in 2002 and it’s got a lot of dudes from around the globe as of now. Most of us enjoy all the components that make up graffiti but vandalism is priority numero uno!

Can you recommend a good recipe, something canadian perhaps?

The Caesar (Canada’s #1 cocktail)

1 oz vodka

2 dashes hot sauce

4 dashes Worcestershire sauce

1 tsp of horseradish

4 oz Clamato juice

1 celery stick

1 lime wedge

Celery salt

Preparation:

Rim a glass with lime and then celery salt. Fill the glass with all the ingredients and mix thoroughly (add ice). Throw in celery stalk and squeeze in the lime wedge.

Peace, love and happy-sprayz…
