One of the original turntablists, J. Rocc founded the Beat Junkies in 1992 with Melo-D and Rhettmatic, but has done just as much on his own as in a group setting. He began DJing in the mid-’80s with a California group named PSK. Soon after forming, the Beat Junkies became a seminal force in the rise of instrumental hip-hop, including core member Babu plus future stars Shortkut and D-Styles.
In addition to numerous mixtapes and hi…s own production for Stones Throw releases, J. Rocc has been the DJ for Madlib’s live shows since the early 2000′s, was the 3rd member of Jaylib (Madlib & J Dilla) during the group’s live events, and collaborated with Madlib on Beat Konducta Vol. 5-6: A Tribute to J Dilla.
New signing to the Lucky Me stable which has debuted the likes of Hud Mo, Mike Slott and have their finger on the pulse when it comes to new talent. Cubic Zirconia are a 4 piece based in NYC and are headed by avant garde soul songstress Tiombe Lockhart, they have been receiving great praise throughout the year, we look forward to hosting them for their debut irish performance
Born and raised in Dublin, making music his whole life Krystal Klear was at first inspired by Hardcore Punk and Metal, he began playing lead guitar and gigging around Ireland. His major inspiration was always Boogie, Funk and Hip-Hop – leading him to create the Krystal Klear moniker in 2008.
Since early 2010, Krystal Klear has recorded an exclusive mix for the now defunct (but forever infamous) Mary Anne Hobbs BBC Radio 1 show, been chosen as a resident for the successful Hoya:Hoya club night in Manchester, toured the U.S.A (stopping off at Dam Funk’s ‘Funkmosphere night) and garnered love from XLR8R, FACT and Dazed & Confused.
Krystal Klear’s contemporary take on Boogie / New Jack Swing pricked the ears of Cooly G who signed him for the debut A-side on her ‘Dub Organizer label. The single ‘Tried For Your Love’ was played 6 weeks in a row on Benji B’s BBC 1XTRA show and collaborations with Olivier Daysoul under the moniker ‘Krystal & Soul’ led to a deal from the tastemaking ‘Eglo’ label. With remix commissions from Lazersword and endorsements from Dam Funk – 2010 was the year Krystal Klear broke.
Being renowned as a firecracker live and a versatile DJ, his recent sets at the ‘Warehouse Project’, ‘Doldrums’ and ‘The Producers House’ club nights have solidified his presence on the U.K club circuit!
