Insa+Nike=I heart

Dunk ETHELs designed by INSA for a show comin up called “Kicks N Canvas”. Looks savage, check out the site at www.kicksncanvas.co.uk Really like the t-shirt, simple but different. And check out the nice packaging design, attention to detail there with the little handle! Couldn’t find out who from NIKE designed the packaging with INSA so if anyone finds out let me know!

THIS IS NOT GRAFFITI!
how to become a writer and blow it all up by entering the art world!
AN EXHIBITION BY: AKACORLEONE
………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………
“Graffiti is not meant to be in a gallery, exposed as another art form, it should be on the streets, fighting the system!”
with this idea in mind the 24 years old illustrator with a graffiti background based in Lisbon, decided to create an exhibition about this strange world where kids run from cops, go underground, always looking for the perfect mission, the coolest style, the fame and glory that comes with becoming the king!
This is not a Graffiti exhibition, it´s a 6 step program to become a writer and blow it all up by entering the art world!
………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………
Opening: Thursday 29th April / 9:00 pm
Montana Shop & Gallery Lisboa
Rua da Rosa Nº14G Bairro Alto
1200-387 Lisboa, Portugal

GRAFF-O-NEPOTISM

Holy shit – I stopped buying this mag a longtime ago when its level of graff matched the ammount of fashion shoots . . .
but jaysus – when Skore didnt make the cover and Dems did – from an English based long running graffiti magazine ? i had to question . . .
This issue – fair play to Rage and whoever is ever in the mag but it really feel it fell off as a mag and forgot what was real along time ago . . .
It used to be something I looked forward to loads . . .remember the gatefold centre spreads? the issue on transparency paper? bygones . . .

ALEX YOUNG – “A.K.A” SOLO ART SHOW

Our mate Od Alex is having a show in London – i would highly recommend going – hes awesome ! heres the official press bit
__________________________________________________________________________________________
Solo show by London based artist Alex Young.
Traversing the boundaries of Fine Art, Illustration, and Graffiti, Alex Young’s latest body of work investigates the social phenomena of ‘alter-ego’s’, informed by the artist’s own experiences as both a graffiti writer and purveyor of Fine Art.
Alex Young’s finely detailed pointillist style portraits feature at the centre of A.K.A, deriving from a series of personal interviews with a range of pseudonymous characters, from burlesque dancers to heavy metal guitarists. His resultant monolithic portraits, whilst photorealistic from afar, on closer inspection offer a wealth of illustrative detail and subtle nuances, alluding to the subjects ‘performed’ identity. Adorning his portraits with multi-layered symbolism and imagery, Young elicits a multitude of narrative strands in these thought-provoking and complex paintings.
Rendered primarily in spray paint, Young’s medium of choice points to years of dedication as a graffiti writer – an endeavour committed to alongside his time spent in formal art training. Compelled to highlight others who nurture such a dual-personality, and the social prejudices and stereotypes that necessitate this ‘alter-ego’ phenomena, A.K.A is an acutely sociological examination of the all too often bigoted and judgemental nature of collective social consciousness.
A.K.A will also feature installations of fine-detail painted animal skulls, inspired by Young’s love of tattoo imagery and the macabre allure of Mexican sugar skulls. From popular culture to Classical and Contemporary Art disciplines, A.K.A will once again exhibit Young’s inimitable ability to coalesce an unbounded range of influences.
Succeeding his hugely successful debut ‘Exhibitionism’ at the Grenade Gallery in 2008, Young’s new body of work looks to set to expand his artistic and conceptual horizons to even loftier new heights.
On Thursday 1st April, 2010 London Miles welcomes you to join us in east London for the opening reception of A.K.A and an evening with the artist, Alex Young.
